Conflict Management Workshop
Conflict As A Fact Of Life
- Conflict is inevitable.
- We encounter conflict and stress daily.
- Conflict demands attention.
- We need a way to dissolve our fear of conflict.
- Our relationships are improved when conflict is understood.
The Chinese symbol of conflict is the product of two words ---- Danger and Opportunity.
Conflict is neither positive nor negative. Resolution can move in either direction. Conflict does not necessarily mean coming disaster. It includes an opportunity. The territory is manageable.
Competent people often become ineffective during conflict. The goal of our 10-hour workshop is to explore the territory known as conflict, name it and weaken the control of exaggerated emotions (myths) that surround it.
- A stage one conflict and its accompanying emotions can best be addressed with coping strategies.
- A stage two conflict requires more specific skills.
- A stage three conflict makes an intervention necessary.
An effective intervention strategy begins with the humble awareness that “super human” skills are inadequate without the cooperation of others – so teamwork is essential to effective conflict management. Negotiation and mediation are used during the higher stages of conflict.
The spectrum of conflict is broad, and the methods of addressing conflict are diverse. The good news about conflict management is that the strategy you use in the workplace is the same strategy you use to manage personal conflict. Too often we narrow our view and miss the alternatives because we take the short view!
The topics covered in our workshop include, but are not limited to:
- The five myths of conflict.
- The three stages of conflict.
- Conflict assessment list.
- Constructive conflict action.
- Developing a credible approach.
- The five styles of conflict management.
- The emotional aspects of conflict.
- Effective intervention.
- The 7 “C’s” of conflict management.
